Road
User Charges – Important Notice.
Road User Charges licence fees have
been increased from 1st October
2010. An amendment to the Road User Charges Act 1977 provides that any
licences purchased prior to 1st October
2010 will become invalid on 1st November
2010. This applies to all heavy vehicles, which are any vehicle that has a
Gross Vehicle Mass of more than 3,500kg.
RUC licences for light vehicles (3.5 tonnes and under) will not expire.
The operators of vehicles that have
a Gross Vehicle Mass of more than 3,500kg must
purchase a new Road User Charges licence before
the 1st November 2010. When you purchase the new licence you will be
automatically credited with the unused portion of the old licence and charged
only for the difference on the unused part of the old licence.
To purchase the new licence, simply
contact ARFAI in the usual way if
you already purchase your RUC through us and we will post the new licence to
you, or if you prefer to use an NZTA agency (NZ Post
etc.) please use the following steps:-
- Record the current reading of the hub odometer and take
it with you.
- Go to any NZ Transport Agency agent and complete a form
“RUCLA” This is same form that you would
normally complete when purchasing a Road User Charges licence.
- On the form where it states “start distance” enter the
current reading of your hub odometer.
- Purchase a sufficient distance to equal or exceed the
current end distance on the old licence.
The value of unused distance on the
old licence will be deducted from the price of the new licence and you will be
charged only the difference between the old licence and the new licence.
NZTA and their Agents (NZ
Post etc.) will charge a transaction fee of $9.56 per licence for
individuals. ARFAI will charge members
a transaction fee of $6.38.
When you are given the new licence
check it to make sure that the start distance is the same as the current
reading of the hub odometer that you have entered as the start distance on the
application form.
If you do not renew the Road User
Charges licence before 1st November you may not legally operate your
vehicle until a new licence has been obtained.
A full list of the new rates is
available on the NZ Transport Agency website www.nzta.govt.nz
or ring the help-desk at the RUC Contact Centre on 0800 655 644 Monday to
Friday 8am to 6pm.
